چکیده

A tree arbiter designed to minimize the average delay between consecutive allocations of a contentious resource is described and evaluated. The idea is to divide the competing users into nested clusters corresponding to sub-trees of varying size, and to keep the resource within the smallest cluster currently containing requests. This design reduces the number of steps in the arbitration procedure and hence increases the overall throughput of requests. The performance of the new arbiter is analysed and is compared to that of an algorithm which maintains rst-in-rst-out order among requests. The trade-oos between the nearest-neighbour and FIFO designs are examined numerically over wide ranges of parameter values. It is shown that when the system becomes large and/or heavily loaded, the beneets of the the nearest-neighbour arbiter become greater.

Spam Classification Using Nearest Neighbour Techniques

Spam mail classification and filtering is a commonly investigated problem, yet there has been little research into the application of nearest neighbour classifiers in this field. This paper examines the possibility of using a nearest neighbour algorithm for simple, word based spam mail classification. This approach is compared to a neural network, and decision-tree along with results published ...

The Area Code Tree for Approximate Nearest Neighbour Search in Dense Point Sets

In this paper, we present an evaluation of nearest neighbour searching using the Area Code tree. The Area Code tree is a trie-type structure that organizes area code representations of each point of interest (POI) in a data set. This data structure provides a fast method for locating an actual or approximate nearest neighbour POI for a query point. We first summarize the area code generation, i...

Eecient Nearest-neighbour Searches Using Weighted Euclidean Metrics

Building an index tree is a common approach to speed up the k nearest neighbour search in large databases of many-dimensional records. Many applications require varying distance metrics by putting a weight on diierent dimensions. The main problem with k nearest neighbour searches using weighted euclidean metrics in a high dimensional space is whether the searches can be done eeciently We presen...

Estimating Individual Tree Growth with the k-Nearest Neighbour and k-Most Similar Neighbour Methods

The purpose of this study was to examine the use of non-parametric methods in estimating tree level growth models. In non-parametric methods the growth of a tree is predicted as a weighted average of the values of neighbouring observations. The selection of the nearest neighbours is based on the differences between tree and stand level characteristics of the target tree and the neighbours. The ...

Testing Some Improvements of the Fukunaga and Narendra's Fast Nearest Neighbour Search Algorithm in a Spelling Task

Nearest neighbour search is one of the most simple and used technique in Pattern Recognition. One of the most known fast nearest neighbour algorithms was proposed by Fukunaga and Narendra. The algorithm builds a tree in preprocess time that is traversed on search time using some elimination rules to avoid its full exploration. This paper tests two new types of improvements in a real data enviro...
